自分もかつては「子ども」だったにもかかわらず、子どもってやつは観察対象として興味深い。この興味はどこから出てくるんだろうか。ある程度は自分自身の郷愁が重なっているのかもしれないけど、客観的に見ても「子ども」と云う生き物にはこちらの好奇心をくすぐる何かがある。いま『子どもたちと芸術家の出あう街2008』と云うイベントに関わっていて、Tetra Logic Studioは「劇団 黒テント」とのコラボレーションで演劇ワークショップを担当している。それで今月の9日（土）に武蔵村山まで出向いて、10人の小学生を相手に演劇ワークショップをやった。講師は黒テントの俳優である宮崎恵治さん。

しかし何故か成長するのに従って、子どもは無意味な仕草をしなくなる。「しなくなる」のか「出来なくなる」のか、どっちなんだろう。いずれにしても「意味」で分断された「大人の社会」に組み込まれていく過程で、子どもは意味のある仕草ばかりするようになる。それは「出来ないこと」が「出来るようになる」過程でもある。たとえば、自転車に乗れなかった子どもが、練習を重ねてあるとき突然に自転車を乗りこなせるようになる。僕もハッキリ覚えているけど、ある瞬間、本当に突然乗れるようになって、そうしたらもう「自転車に乗れない」感覚を忘れてしまう。
「成長する」と云うことは、いろんなことが出来るようになることと同じなのかもしれないけれど、これは裏返して云えば「出来なかった自分」にサヨナラをすることなんじゃないか。自転車に乗れなかった昨日までの自分にサヨナラするわけだ。そうなると自転車に乗れないヤツの気持ちとか身体感覚は日を追うにつれて理解できないものになっていく。九九が人並みに云える僕にとって、「3の段」でつまずいている小学生の気分は、いまや既に理解の地平の遙か彼方だ。
だけど、「サヨナラした自分」って、本当にどこかに行ってしまったのだろうか。たぶん、自分の中のどこかに居ると思うんだよね。記憶の奥底と云うか、心理の深層と云うか、ともかく自分の中にひっそりと隠れているような気がするんだ。「自転車に乗れなかった自分」も「九九の云えなかった自分」も「泳げなかった自分」も、「他人のような自分」として、自分の内側に抱え込んでいるのが「大人」と呼ばれる生き物なんではないか。「成長する」ってことは、こうやっていろんな自分に「サヨナラ」することであり、同時にたくさんの「他人になった自分」を内側に抱え込んでいく過程なのかもしれない。けれども、自分の中のどこかに居る限り、「他人になった自分」を探し出すことも出来るのではないか。そうやって自分の奥底まで降りて行き、「サヨナラした自分」に会うことが出来れば、その人はきっと舞踏家になれる。子どもの身体性の中にこそ、「大人」が失った豊穣な可能性があると思う。だから、今回の演劇ワークショップは僕にとっても有意義なワークショップなのである。講師はむしろ子どもたちのほうかもしれないな。
